Will kratom show up in a drug test?

Annswer: Not on standard tests, but it can be found if they look for it.
Standard tests vs. targeted tests
- Routine workplace/clinical urine screens (5-, 10-, 12-panel) do not test for kratom’s alkaloids (mitragynine/7-hydroxymitragynine), so kratom typically won’t show up.
- Targeted tests exist and are increasingly available (e.g., LC-MS/MS panels used by some pain clinics, probation/courts, forensic labs, or when specifically ordered). Those will detect kratom.
Possible detection windows when a specific kratom test is used
| Specimen | Typical detection window |
|---|---|
| Urine | About 1–3 days after occasional use; up to ~5–7 days with frequent/heavy use |
| Blood | Roughly up to 24–48 hours |
| Saliva | Limited data; likely similar to blood (hours to a day) |
| Hair | Up to ~90 days, if specifically tested for kratom |
Other notes
- Kratom usually does not cause a false positive for opioids on standard immunoassays.
- Adulterated products or co-use with other substances can trigger positives for other drugs.
- If you’re concerned, ask the tester exactly which substances are included in their panel or whether they test for mitragynine.
